Askham Bryan College preparing for Countryside Day
Date: 4th May 2016
Looking for the ideal family day out? If so Askham Bryan College will be opening their doors to the public on Sunday 12th June for the Countryside show and Open day.
The York based College has a packed programme of activities on offer for families who are looking for a fun filled day out. The campus will be open for visitors to experience first-hand the great outdoors, whether it’s going on tractor and trailer rides to participating on an inflatable assault course and trying your hand in drystone walling.
Through the interactive demonstrations, our aim is to connect the countryside to the curriculum, during the day; families visiting will be given an insight into food, farming and the country life. The day will incorporate over 14 of our land based courses and the visitors will have the opportunity to see farm animals and machinery close up and meet a variety of individuals and businesses that are part of the rural community. “The emphasis of the day is very much on family entertainment but also showcasing what we do here with plenty of staff to chat to about the courses we offer,” said Jo Gibson, Head of Marketing. “If previous years are anything to go by, it will be a hive of activity from beginning to the end of the day.”
Those with a gardening interest can visit the Plant Doctor in the College's horticulture department where there will also be plants on sale and floristry workshops. Everything from meerkats to snakes can be viewed in the lively Animal Management Department. Whilst, with children in mind we have a Kidzone offering, face painting, a climbing wall and a bouncy castle. Elsewhere there’s Donkey Rides, “Diggerland” Diggers, fun dog show, duck herding, a flyball display and equine drill rides.
Doors open at 10.30am and close at 3.30pm. Entry is £5 for adults with under 16s free. Dogs on leads are allowed. For more information see www.askham-bryan.ac.uk or ring 01904
