The outdoors is our playground and our classroom; whether you’re a walker, hiker, climber, camper, mountain biker, paddler or extreme sports enthusiast, we’ll help you develop your outdoor skills.
We have a wide variety of sports facilities available, these are free of charge to students on the Sports courses at Askham Bryan College’s campus. The College’s facilities include a climbing wall with bouldering and roped climbing areas, a gym with a range of state-of-the-art cardio and resistance machines and a wide selection of free-weights, a sports hall and outdoor sports pitches. In addition to using these great facilities to develop personal skills, Adventure Sports students will also get the chance to use these facilities to run sessions and practice their coaching and leadership skills. We also have a fleet of canoes, kayaks and sea kayaks for students to use. All Outdoor Adventure students spend one day a week doing adventure sports and building the skills needed to lead groups in the outdoors (additional NGB qualifications may be required).
Our college locations offer easy access to the Yorkshire Moors & Dales and the Lake District & Peak District National Parks, moreover students may have the opportunity to go on college excursions which could include surfing in Cornwall, mountaineering in Snowdonia, canoeing in the Yorkshire Dales or even skiing in the French Alps, where theory can well and truly be put into practice!
